Lady Quantum: A Little Something for Uncle Noel

Description

There's a lot to be said for a man that lived almost 101 years.

Father. Brother. Uncle. Solder. Worker. Lover. Caregiver.

The list goes on and on.

One thing is certain.

My Great Uncle Noel loved beauty. Especially being graced with the presence of a beautiful woman. :D

All the way up to his death, earlier today, he called my daughters and myself his angels, because, I think, to him, that's what he compared us to, visiting angels, there to ease him in his last days.

My Great Uncle Noel fought in two wars WWII and the Korean War, and served in three branches of the service, as well as the Coast Guard, and the Volunteer Firefighters, until his body, just wouldn't allow him to do it anymore, and even then, he answered the phones until dementia got it's grip on him about 10 years ago.

In that time, just 10 years, when the people around him should have been helping him, this poor man, this hero for so many, was swindled out of almost everything he had because strangers came into his life, and took advantage of him.

He didn't know any better, because of the dementia, and the family he had nearby turned their backs on him.

By mere chance, my family and I found him, after he had been taken from his home BY FORCE by the police, and taken to a rest home two hours away from where he lived.

He had been put into the system, and discarded.

When we found him he was malnourished, his cognitive abilities were low, and all he wanted, was to go home.

Since that time, about two years ago, we improved his care by bringing him to a care center only fifteen minutes away from where we live, and we made regular visits. His health improved, he gained weight, and we believed that he was happy. (Especially when he saw his angels. ;) )

Unfortunately, he developed cancer on his head, that spread into the bone, then rapidly into his brain. At his advanced age chemotherapy would have killed him just as readily as the cancer, so he was put on high doses of pain medication to ease his suffering.

He died today at roughly 1pm central time, and the world lost another great man.

God rest him.

For Uncle Noel, I decided to show a little something that I know he would have liked. An "angel" for people to see, and maybe Uncle Noel can look down and smile.

I love you Uncle Noel. Rest in peace.

A lovely image*, and a fitting gift for a man who undoubtedly appreciated true beauty in life. Although I am three years late here...my condolences for your loss.

*Perhaps LQ will star in the remake of THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS, channeling the famous "reclining on the piano" scene with Michelle Pfeiffer.
