Description

Sometimes you just have to get away. Like when business, is booming, your personal life is hot and spicy, and your "hobby" is taking up WAY too much time. It's time to just take a moment to yourself, stop, find a quiet spot, and chill.

Unfortunately, when you are one of the most recognized people in the city...that can be a bit hard to do.

"I knew I shouldn't have unmasked myself..." Lady Quantum lamented as she rode the elevator to the roof of the Rads and Radicals penthouse. It seemed that she'd only gotten busier since becoming a "face" for super heroes in the community, and that meant not really having much time for herself...or much time to breathe. She figured that doing so would help further heroes rights, and bonding the West End community to their foster community Dream Haven, which it had, but it seemed that someone always had something going on, whether it be a conference, press release, or media coverage. It was like being a celebrity without most of the perks. She sighed as she exited the elevator to the outdoor area that had been created as a kind of "back yard" for LQ and Kara. The foliage and water smelled inviting, and she almost turned around and went back down to get on a swim suit before remembering that she was here to have a little quiet time before a meeting later.

Another sigh, the life of a non-masked heroine.

She sat in one of the poolside chairs thinking about what all had brought her to this. The science, the explosion, the work, the dedication, and of course, her family and Kara. She couldn't have done all of this without them. Through it all though, she had other times, when she had to pray. She didn't really go to a church, she didn't have time to go to the one in Texas that she used to go to, and she was always taught that God wasn't in a building, he was all around. And to be fair, she'd seen, and met people and things that had claimed to be Gods, and were VERY powerful. Enough to bend reality to their will even, but...she still believed. Faith, it seemed, was not something that would leave her even in the face of time travel, extra dimensional beings, aliens, and all manner of people who would say, "Oh yeah, explain THAT." because she couldn't. She honestly didn't know. So she put her faith somewhere where she thought it could help.

In the midst of all these thoughts, another voice in her head interrupted. It was deep, guttural, and dark, "And you think, that everything you have done has been for the best? A whole section of city has been moved from where it was supposed to be. People translocated. Lives upturned. Killed. Possibly doomed. You, and your...FAITH" the word dripped with venom, "is nothing but the delusions of a woman, a people, and a cult that has gone on for far too long."

The voice was like a mental slap to her face. It was oppressive,  overpowering, and above all, it felt like she was being weighted down, like the whole of the world was on her shoulders. She questioned herself, "Who was she to help people? A freak who got lucky after getting blown up? Someone who imposes her will upon others like some nazi? A spandex-clad hussy who's only good for pin-up shots on the evening news?" The whirlwind in her mind went on and on as more accusing voices joined in the din and pushed her down. She fell to her knees beside the pool, a sobbing mess, clutching her head, trying to shake the voices out, but they would not go.

And then, a small moment of clarity, "Call to Me, and I will answer you..."

She didn't know where it came from, but she heard it as clear as she'd heard the other voice, and she latched onto it like a lifeline, "God, please help me, for I am besieged, and I cannot survive without your mercy."

And as suddenly as the dark voices had arrived, they stopped. It was once again peaceful and serene in the outdoor area next to the pool, the only noise the distant sound of the city below, and the flow of the water.

Quantum looked around, releasing her head, searching for an intruder of some kind. Perhaps a telepath, or some other mentalist had been able to get inside her head and put those thoughts there. To try and make her doubt herself. She found noone, and nothing lurking in the area, and no scan with her Quantum Vision detected any abnormal energy readings. She had no explanation for what had happened.

She heard the ding of the elevator, and Kendra stepped out with a folder in hand, notes and documentation for the meeting she was to attend. How long had she been listening to the voices? It had to have been three hours if Kendra was here to get her.

"Everything okay?" Kendra asked, noticing the look on Quantum's face.

"Um...yeah. I must have fallen asleep by the pool. Do I look okay?" LQ asked her concerned assistant.

Kendra laughed, "Oh, you're always fabulous. Stop kidding around!" She handed Quantum the folder and then made to leave, but stopped and turned toward her. "You sure you're okay?"

Quantum looked at the folder, then back at her spot by the pool for a moment, then back at Kendra, "Never better. Lets go save the world!"

The two walked to the elevators to head to their meeting, and as the doors shut a dark menecing voice can be heard from by the pool saying, "We shall see..."
